Our Roots
Our Roots

RMB’s very first involvement with hydroseeding is on a flood prevention scheme on the River Parrett for the civil engineering firm M J Gleeson. Although the fundamentals of hydroseeding haven’t changed, the materials and machinery used in 1969 differ considerably to those used in today’s operations.

Finn Hydroseeders
Finn Hydroseeders

The use of Finn hydroseeders is adopted. Unlike many of the other hydroseeding units used in the UK at this time that tend to be converted water bowsers which lack many of today’s standard features. These purpose built hydroseeders are imported directly from North America and are more reliable and efficient

Hydromulch

Using the new purpose built hydroseeders allows for the use of hydroseeding with specialist wood fibre hydromulch, removing the requirement of traditionally used materials such as messy bitumen or the awkward to handle raw paper pulp.

Hydroseeding in Africa

RMB become the first UK hydroseeding firm to be awarded a contract to undertake hydroseeding in Africa.  The massive infrastructure project involves hydroseeding on a new pipeline scheme for British Gas in West Africa.

First UK Website

With the rapid growth of the internet the decision is taken to go online and fully embracing the new digital media.

The small website initially comprises of only two pages but still gives us the honour of being the first hydroseeding company in the United Kingdom to attain an online presence.

The Wheel and The Chain
The Wheel and The Chain

Hydroseeding of the ‘The Wheel and The Chain’ begins. Designed by artist Lorna Green and located in South Gloucestershire, it is built using reclaimed material from the construction of stage 3 of the A4174 ‘Avon Ring Road’.

On it’s completion the colossal art piece is the largest earth sculpture in the British Isles.

Eco Friendly Alternatives

Previously used on areas requiring erosion control, bitumen is used after seeding as a tack coat to hold seed and soil in place.  Although not used for sometime, the decision is taken to completely halt all future use of bitumen. Instead clients are offered environmentally friendly alternatives that can be applied in just one application instead of two.

Incorporated

Although hydroseeding since early 1969, in July of 2006 the organisation is incorporated in England and Wales.

Flexterra
BMX track after hydroseeded using Flexterra

RMB is the first in the United Kingdom to begin using Flexterra. The revolutionary erosion control product is in effect a spray applied erosion control blanket that will become an industry benchmark for all high performance hydromulch.  Soon after its introduction, Flexterra is used in the construction of the London 2012 Olympic Games when RMB is awarded the contract to hydroseed the steep side of the new BMX track.

BALI Accreditation
BALI

RMB is granted entry into The British Association of Landscapes Industries (BALI), becoming full members.

Established in 1972, BALI have been vetting professional landscapers to ensure the highest standards of workmanship, skill and health & safety are upheld within the UK landscaping industry.

IECA Membership
IECA Membership

Another first for a UK hydroseeding organisation when membership to the International Erosion Control Association’s (IECA) growing international chapter is gained.

ECTC
ECTC

RMB Hydroseeding joins the Erosion Control Technology Council (ECTC), the first for a UK hydroseeding company.  Made up of people who are dedicated to advancing the knowledge, experience and expertise of erosion and sediment control.

Winter Active Grass Seed
winter active grass seed mixture

The first to begin using ‘Winter Active’ seed as standard in all grass mixtures during colder conditions. Unlike other grasses that are claimed to be winter active, the cultivars used are true amenity perennial varieties that germinate in soil temperatures as low as 5 degrees celsius.

Organic Fertiliser
Organic Fertiliser

To reduce the damaging effects fertiliser runoff can have to waterways and oceans, RMB Hydroseeding switch from using synthetic fertilisers to organic based products that are produced from natural sources.

Mycorrhizal Treatment
Mycorrhizal Treatment

RMB Hydroseeding add Mycorrhizal fungi dressing to all future grass and wildflowers seed mixtures.

The beneficial fungi helps new seedlings develop a denser root mass so more nutrients can be harvested from the soil, aiding both establishment and resistance to stress.
